Boryeong seeks foreign visitors for monthlong stay

Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, is recruiting foreign nationals to stay in the city for up to a month as part of a local tourism promotion program, the city said Wednesday.

Five to 10 people total -- either solo or in pairs -- will be selected for support covering accommodation, daily expenses, activity fees and travel insurance.

Participants who stay at registered accommodations in Boryeong will receive 50,000 won ($36) per night for each of the five teams, along with a daily allowance of 20,000 won per person for meals and transportation.

Participants will also receive activity subsidies of 100,000 won per person for stays of seven to 10 days and 150,000 won for stays of 11 to 30 days. The money can be used for admission to tourist attractions and activity programs.

The city will cover up to 20,000 won per person for travel insurance.

Participants must stay in Boryeong, a coastal city known for its mud flats and beaches, for seven to 30 days between Sept. 18 and Nov. 30.

During their stay, they must complete five individual tasks and one group task.

Individual tasks include inviting at least one acquaintance to visit Boryeong and posting proof of the visit, writing a travel review on Boryeong’s tourism website, posting tourism-related content on a personal blog or other online community, taking part in Boryeong’s stamp tour and completing a satisfaction survey.

For the group task, participants will create promotional content, such as a tourism video, in consultation with organizers.

After completing the required tasks, participants must submit supporting documents by mail within 15 days of the end of their stay. The city will transfer eligible support payments by the 25th of the month following receipt of the documents.

Applicants must be at least 19 years old and have an address outside South Chungcheong Province.

Applications are being accepted by email through Aug. 31.
