After temporary protections were set to expire Wednesday for hundreds of thousands of Salvadoran migrants in the United States, the Department of Homeland Security said it would, at least for now, allow them to keep their protected status.
The department said in a statement that the temporary protected status that has permitted roughly 200,000 Salvadoran migrants to live in the US without fear of deportation would remain for the time being.
