S. Korea assumes co-chairship of International Climate Councils Network working group

SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Presidential Commission on Climate Crisis Response has assumed the co-chairship of an International Climate Councils Network (ICCN) working group, officials said Monday.

Kang Yoon-ho, a director of the commission, began the role as a co-chair of the ICCN's Climate Governance Working Group on Monday, officials said. The other co-chair is Ross Linden-Fraser of the Canadian Climate Institute.

South Korea is the first Asian nation to serve as a co-chair of the working group.

While no fixed term has been set, the working group usually decides whether to renew the term on a yearly basis, officials said.

The ICCN is a network of government-mandated advisory councils on climate issues and has about 30 members.

South Korea's assumption of the co-chairship reflects the country's evolving status as a nation leading international discussions on climate governance, officials said.
